I love being creative. I love handmade items. And I love vintage. For a while now I have been wanting to have a little handmade company, I have had many ideas about what this handmade business would look like, but it needed to be something that I was passionate about and could really let me have a creative outlet.
With the arrival of Arthur last year, my eyes were opened up to an even bigger world of possibilities when it came to handmade items for babies and children. When I started decorating Arthur’s nursery I found that the market wasn’t very flexible when it came it ideas for boys, it is packed full of trucks, tractors or baby animals. My original nursery idea was around woodland animals, but this slowly evolved when I realised that his room really didn’t reflect my love and passion for all things vintage. This was the moment that I realised that there was a gap in the market – there was no one (that I could find) making cot sheet or kids bedding with vintage sheets. REAL vintage sheets. Nursery bedding that was affordable, unique and on-of-a-kind. Nor was there a focus on floral for boys, or masculine florals as I like to call them. I started creating a few fitted cot sheets for Arthur’s nursery, either by sourcing pre-loved vintage sheets at the local thrift store or ordering new and unused vintage sheets oline via Etsy. I showed them to my friends and shared them on my Instagram, and people loved them!
This is how Harold and Florence was born!
Harold and Florence was named in honour of my Grandfather and Grandmother – two amazing influences in my life. The name resonated with me as I felt it represented the old-world charm that I wanted to bring to my handmade business. I wanted to create a business that had a unique vintage feel to it but also focused on the things that are important to me. Not only is Harold and Florence sustainability conscious but it also caters to those on a budget. By offering two product ranges, Upcycled and Premium, with multiple price points, meant that there was a product or a budget to suit everyone.
